about
Peace of Wild Things… It’s about a way of being. It’s about what happens naturally. It’s about what we yearn for, in our minds, in our hearts, in our bodies, and in the world around us. There’s always a lot of talk about peace, as in world peace, and I believe that most people do want this, an end to war and violence, wherever it occurs. To bring this about, we first have to find a bit of peace within ourselves; this can be a real challenge, especially for those of us living in urban environments, surrounded by technology, cut off from most things natural. This is where Peace of Wild Things comes in, as a reminder that what we want “out there” is available to us “in here.” By taking the time and effort to re-connect with nature, even in the simplest of ways, we can re-connect with ourselves, and life around us. We can be the peace we want to see in the world.
My name is Patrick Thrift, and I am the creator and writer here. I’m a single dad with two young men I now look up to, for inspiration and explanation (that’s how the fridge empties so quickly…), a beautiful Kuvasz/Retreiver, and a huge supporting cast of loved ones. I am also a writer, a poet, an endurance athlete, and a keen observer of what’s going on around me. I’m interested in discovering the many answers to a few basic questions, like “Who am I?” and “How can I best serve the world?” Vancouver, B.C. is my home, with the mountains out back, the ocean out front, and a whole lot of natural beauty in between. As much as movement has been a big part of my daily life, I am realizing more and more how much I love and need the stillness that I find out there, away from the crowds, the concrete, the clutter; each time I absorb just a little bit more. I call it peace. You may call it bliss, or love, or enlightenment. It’s all of the above.
Life is a lot of things, but mostly it’s a fabulous adventure, and I like to write about it. With this blog, I hope to inspire you to take a good look at your own life and the impact you are having, on the people and places you know, and all those you don’t. Let’s begin a conversation about what we find, about what’s important to us, about our passions and inspirations. Please subscribe for regular updates, and if you like what you see, share it with those you love (and those you don’t know you love). Find that peace within you reflected in what you see, and in what you do. And spread it around.
Peace Out
